A Full Day in the Grave on the Sabbath

This probably only interests me, but as I was meditating on Luke 23-24 last week, it struck me that the only full day Jesus’ body lay in the tomb was the Sabbath.  On Friday and Sunday his body was present only for a portion of the day.

Jesus said in John 19:40, “It is finished.”  I thought it quite fitting that as Jesus truly completed his work of atonement by absorbing God’s wrath for sin, the very next day was the Sabbath.  Jesus rested from his work.  And his work was good.
